Here we go….
Like many of you I’ve had several heartattacks since reading the syllubus and being introduced to the new world of “blogging”. Computers scare me, lets just be honest…however working through new mediums alwasy proves to be, at the very least, entertaining.
With regard to the course material thus far (more specifically the last two bullets at the top of page 4), I ask the question: ARE WE REALLY BEING HEARD and if so by whom? Does this apply to everyone? If our ideas are being expressed widely, and the common man is outraged by the same tragedies, how are those ideas integrated into corporate descision making in all facets of media?
Consider the economic imperative, the definition in itself rejects the minority voice, no matter what angle it comes from. Similarly conglomeration offers us one, often stagnant, view of our now media filtered world..
Anyone care to jump into that?
See you in class!

Yes, a delightful start!
Though I am going to try and stay away from commenting too much, tonight I cannot help but respond.
You ask: “ARE WE REALLY BEING HEARD” and I think we can all agree that the answer of course is “NO.” So then we trouble this a little and ponder “WHY?” You ask “DOES THIS APPLY TO EVERYONE?” and I think, again, we know the answer is no, so we trouble this a little and ask “then whom?”
You ask “how are those ideas integrated into corporate descision making in all facets of media?” and I tell you that this is a great thought, and I question whether or not you have read a recent Canadian book titled “THE REBEL SELL” because it asks this very question.
However, I ask you to ponder your thought: are we really fed on view of our media filtered world? I don’t think that this is the case at all, though please feel free to disagree. At a superficial level, what about every time you see someone in a televised interview being asked about how they are treated by “THE MEDIA” when they are infact, at that very moment, in that media.
The one thing I see right now is a litany of choice, of multiple voices and viewpoints -we will refer to this in the next few weeks as “FRAGMENTATION” which in a nutshell is kind of like “DIVIDE AND CONQUER” – though certain media and medium do portray one “stagnant” view of our world, this is true.
Anyway, you are off to a great start here!
Thanks
I kind of went off on a poetic injustice speech there…
You’re right about choice, everyone has choices, the interest for me lies in how our underlying ethics and morals are pulled to influence our behavior in a particular way. How do shows like “greys” affect how we see the people around us, who we desire as a partner or friend, are certain choices irrelevant because they haven;t done a show about them yet?
